For Friday

Based upon a student survey, a packet of images of interests was printed out.  students chose images and were assigned to recreate the image in three dimensions using the materials of their choice (Sculpy, Cardboard, Felt, Paint, Wire, Found Object, etc.).

The final 3D sculptures were put together to create a still life landscape.  For the last week, students have been doing 4 full color still lives of their creations.

For Friday, finish four full color observation drawings from the sculpture still life.  Have each drawing be from a different Camera angle.  If you are getting bored of the still life, which may be understandable after 2/3 drawings, extend your drawing beyond the sculptures and draw the art room itself.

When finished, experiment and play with the supplied sculpy.  Extra sculptures will be fired for Wednesday.

  



6th Period

Students can continue their play and experimenting with the sculpy (firing on Wednesday.  Collect all sculptures on the construction paper on the back right part of the classroom).

Students are working on four name paintings which should experiment with font and mark making.  Students must paint their names in 4 different fonts which converges with four separate mark-making procedures or pattern construction (zig zag, sponge painting, gradient, etc.)

Ask students to consider using complimentary or opposite colors.

Camera Angle Sculptures and Enviornments

This semester, we have been studying camera angles in a variety of media; book arts, drawing, sculpture, photography.  Through camera angles, we are learning that depending upon how you look at something, what you are looking at may appear very different.  For example, shooting a pikachu from a down shot will make him look small, but shooting him from below, an upshot, will make him look large. 

Students are making sculpted figures and environments for these figures.  next week, students will get the opportunity to photograph their figures within the environments from a variety of camera angles which will be published here as well as in the glass case at school. 






The Dearborn STEM's library has been given a donation from Hub Comics in Somerville Massachusetts of an assortment of Young Adult graphic novels.  Students in the class are using these books to study graphic novels.  They will be in the school's library for next year. 

Sculpture Backgrounds, Lighting and Camera Angles

Great Job last week on sculptures!  Good news is that there will be more Sculpey tomorrow!  We will make another batch of sculptures based on the reflections of last week's work.

Today:  Pair off in groups of two.  Choose between the two of you a sculpture to work with. 

Using cardboard, paper, felt, objects, etc., create a three dimensional environment of your sculpture.  When finished, using the class tripod/camera or your phone, take six photos of your sculpture in your environment with six different camera angles from last week's vocabulary terms; side of head/back of head, full object, 3 stage, depth, small figure/large background, profile, extreme close-up, etc. 

Please use the full class time.  Make sure your backgrounds are full color.
